Students' In-Class Experience at Prestigious Recording Studio Rocks
The University of New Haven is proud to partner with Blackbird Studio to offer a study-away program designed for students in our music majors. Nashville is the creative center of the American music business and a source for artists, songwriters, producers and engineers across the musical spectrum.
This full semester experience is designed to present both an enhanced academic and hands-on learning adventure for serious students interested in immersing themselves in the ultimate creative music community, Nashville, Tennessee.
The Study Away experience takes place in the spring semester of your junior year. Juniors in good standing, with a 3.0 overall GPA and a 3.2 GPA in one of the respective Department of Music majors are eligible to participate in the program. All prerequisites for the courses being offered in Nashville must be completed by the end of the fall semester of your junior year.
Applicant’s conduct and academic integrity records and résumé will be reviewed. Participants will be selected by a committee made up of music department faculty.
The program will encompass 15 credits of academic courses and internship experiences anchored by University of New Haven's partnership with the world famous , considered one of the finest and most comprehensive recording facilities in North America.
Students will have the unique opportunity to learn, observe and interact with state of the art facilities and cutting edge technology as well as the top line artists, producers and engineers in recording and live sound. Additionally, students will be surrounded by the industry's best and brightest experts in the various music industry disciplines including music publishing, radio, management, touring and A+R.
Participating students will take courses in Music Publishing, Music Business Careers and Entrepreneurship, Music Production, and Recording Techniques and Mixing, as well as a semester-long internship at the various music companies and recording studios in Nashville, including , , and , to name just a few. All courses and internships will be taught by well-established industry professionals and educators with a deep knowledge of their subject area and supervised by the University of New Haven Music faculty.

Standard University of New Haven tuition plus a $1,500 program fee. Travel, housing and meals should be arranged by each student based on vetted information provided by the Department of Music.

Credits earned at the University of New Haven may not transfer to another educational institution. Credits earned at another educational institution may not be accepted by the University of New Haven.
